Los Hijos came into this fixture as the league’s least prolific team but they more than played their part in this goalfest. They quickly assumed a solid lead through Maguire’s header and Kroos’s howitzer and, despite a response from Shaqiri, restored their cushion through a powerful Muller strike. After the break, though, the Ducks offered more threat on the counter, with first Luis Alberto then Felix breaking through to pull it back. But there was no question as to which was the more complete team performance and Los Hijos got their just reward for their domination when the substitute Zaha nipped through for the winner. If they can tighten up at the back, this is evidence that the league newcomers have what it takes to move much higher up the table.
