Two defensively solid sides started cagily here but Modric blew a hole in the game shortly after the break when, in the middle of a whirling 360-degree spin, he cannoned one far past Onana. It emboldened the visitors, who saw Robertson’s cross-field pass set up fellow wing-back Alexander-Arnold to really put the screws on Lambert’s men. The novice manager turned to a 3-4-3 in an attempt to rouse his Weasels – though still left Neymar on the wing – but nothing came of it as the away side deservedly claimed their first-ever victory against the former champions.
