Weasels feared a thumping as injuries and suspensions forced them to field a centre-back pairing of Monreal and D’Ambrosio but they took the lead within a minute when Carrasco rose to head home Alves’s free kick. Thereafter the two sides began an entertaining back-and-forth, with decent chances at both ends, but Lukaku eventually exploited the visitors’ weakness to make room for an equaliser. Lambert’s men stuck to it and a switch to 3-4-3 saw Zapata strike late on the break, but it was Silva, the former Weasel, who broke their hearts with a well-deserved equaliser within the very same minute. Both teams were good value here in a real crowd-pleaser, and neither will feel too unhappy about the result.
